Sites of Interception: Salinity management in Sunraysia

Salinity is a most crucial and frightening issue for future land management in the Murray Darling Basin. The underlying trend of increased river salinity and land degradation has been a consequence of irrigated agriculture over the past 100 years. For an artist to understand the enormity and complexity of saline management, the role of consultation with those who live and work in these issues and the environment is essentialSites of Interception is an interactive multimedia artwork developed out of a collaboration between Megan Jones and the Salinity Management Consortium in Sunraysia. The artwork documents significant sites of saline groundwater interception using photomedia and Quicktime VR techniques for the audience to play with, revealing the engineered management of water in the region to control environmental impacts of irrigation.
